We’re living in a world where the public demands instant gratification. Streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Spotify have risen in popularity because they meet the oh-so-impatient demands of the public. This got us thinking…How can associations keep up with instant gratification?
Content for Members and Non Members
These streaming services often come in two options: (1) free and available to the public with limited access to content or (2) paid subscriptions with unlimited access to content. There’s a parallel between the streaming services business model and the membership structure of associations. Each have the broad audience of non-paying members and social media followers and the dues-paying members/paying subscribers. Like streaming services providers, associations should deliver different content to these different audiences. The more general content can and should be made available to everyone, while the more exclusive or industry specific content should only be made available to members. The value in having content readily available and easily accessible for your audience is making sure you’re keeping up with their demands and potentially converting prospective members into members.
How to keep up with instant gratification
- I’m sure you’ve heard the joke, “There’s an app for that!” But really, does your association have an app? Your members may find an app valuable. If your members are anything like the streaming services’ users; when they want something, they want it right away. If an app isn’t a good fit for your association, then ensuring your site is mobile-friendly is crucial to accommodate those need-it-now members.
- One way to appease your members’ instant gratification desires during elections is using a Web Bridge. Establishing a connection between our voting system and the members-only section of your website, the Web Bridge allows members to quickly and easily log-in to vote.
- QR Codes – Simply put, QR Codes are one way to satisfy members’ instant gratification. Place a QR Codes on any mailing (newsletter, ballot, etc.). Members scan the QR Code and are instantly directed to the appropriate information they need.
