We recently managed our largest election to date. Nearly 500,000 votes were cast. Even more importantly our partner saw their voter turnout double from their previous election. How did we do it?
Give your Members Options
Giving your members more than one method by which they can vote, is a proven method to increase turnout. Our partner selected a hybrid election - all of their members received a paper ballot in the mail. The ballot listed instructions for all methods of voting – they could simply fill out the paper ballot and return by postal mail, cast their vote online or vote by phone - the members were given the choice.
Simplify the Voting Process
Make the voting process as simple, accessible and user-friendly as possible. For this particular election, Election-America simplified voting for their members using our Web Bridge™ process and QR Codes on the paper ballots.
- Election-America’s Web Bridge™ connects our secure voting site with the existing “members only” section of your website. Members can log-in using their existing log-in details to quickly and easily access their ballot.
- We placed QR Codes on the paper ballots so members could simply scan the code with their phone and were automatically directed to the secure voting site. Thousands of members voted using the QR codes. Members loved being able to simply scan and vote!
Sending reminders by mail and/or email is an excellent way to increase voter turnout. We also recommend using social media as a platform to remind members to vote. Posting updates or reminders on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and so on helps build your social media presence and reminds members to vote. Election-America can also incorporate social media into your election. Once a member casts their vote, they can click on a social media share button to post to that social network that they voted, and encourage others to do so as well.
