Election-America’s dedicated, diverse, and knowledgeable management team have accomplished much in the field of elections. A few of our favorite moments are highlighted below.
Chris Backert joined Election-America in 2007 and has over ten years of experience working with elections. He has been a leading innovator in the field of election administration, introducing industry best practices as well as furthering research and development. Since joining Election-America, he has overseen the successful execution of Election-America’s largest election projects to date, including the first public online voting election in the United States. He is the author of “Remote Voting Technology,” which he presented at Caltech/MIT Voting Technology Project’s Voting Systems Vendor Workshop. He has participated in the development of technical standards for election technology with the federal government and has served as an adviser for the U.S. Election Assistance Commission’s Military Heroes Initiative.
“After more than a decade of working with hundreds of organizations, I’m still amazed to find that each and every election is unique.”
Ken Marek has over thirty years of business experience in managing account relationships and issue resolutions and providing successful results in diverse environments such as banking, corporate, and law. Ken joined Election-America in 2009 as the Director of Election Partnerships. He manages partnership creations and strategic goal planning and has helped to improve the election processes for all of our partners. An indispensable member of the Election-America team, Ken’s legal and business background, friendly communication style, and inherent attention to detail enables him to consistently attract, build, and develop strong relationships with our partners.
“While providing ideas and information for planning and perfecting processes for many of our partner organization’s elections, I am learning that the personalities of the people with whom I interact with is often well-matched with the character of the organization they represent and the tone of the relationship they have with their membership. For example, when I accepted [Director of General Services] David Fiedler’s invitation to meet with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod’s governance and election team, I was welcomed with a guided tour of their headquarters and amazing museum within before sitting down to discuss and present options and ideas for their next leadership election.”

Larry Campbell has over ten years of experience managing large elections, including many global voting projects. In 2007, Larry joined Election-America as the Senior Project Manager. As Project Manager, Larry works hand in hand with clients to ensure all of their needs, deadlines, and goals are met. He has served as Project Manager for high-profile clients including the New York City Department of Education, the French Expatriates, and the New Democratic Party of Canada. Larry’s attention to detail and his Master’s in English align with Election-America’s adage of “being in the business of perfection.”
“The elections of Seismological Society of America (SSA) presented challenges to me that I really enjoyed working on. These elections required both technological and editorial solutions: we needed to design the technological aspects of the election to meet the client’s unique voter eligibility requirements. At the same time, we needed to present the client’s election information logically and coherently. Don’t tell my boss, but I actually enjoy working with the client to develop solutions that integrate the technological and editorial aspects of these elections.”
“We’ve been adding and updating some new and exciting features to Election Manager™. After showing one of our clients the updated features, she exclaimed, ‘WOW, it’s perfect! Excellent.’ It’s always really nice to hear such positive feedback from the people who are using our technology.”
“One of my favorite moments since I’ve joined Election-America was being recognized by the New York City School Chancellor, Joel Klein, at a press conference for the work we did in making the Community Education Council’s advisory vote a success. That election was a proud moment and huge accomplishment for us – we successfully managed the first all-online election, and our technology accommodated over 10 languages and millions of voters.”
Maggie Wynn joined Election-America in 2009 to manage administrative duties. As an integral part of the team, she has become a central hub for information. Her enthusiasm for learning and teaching is the glue that keeps the team together. As Director of Administration, Maggie is responsible for human resources, finance, and administrative tasks.
“Attending the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) Forum was an educational and fun experience. Having the chance to meet and discuss with like-minded professionals about managing growth in small to mid-sized businesses was eye-opening. It was also interesting to meet with other SHRM members and learn the inner business cultures of industries outside my own. After attending this event, I truly understand and appreciate the value in professional associations and my membership within this particular group.”
